Thanks to the amazing donation by the Geoff and Sally White Charitable Fund, we created a competition for Washoe County School Students to create a design for our new thank you card. All of the submissions were amazing and it was so hard to choose, but in the end three winners were picked, one each from an elementary, middle and high school.

Teacher Kathy Johnson and winner, Olivia Sackrison, Verdi Elementary School

Teacher Julie Steiner and winner, Emma Abamonga, Mendive Middle School

Teacher Skye Snyder and winner Jake Mayer, McQueen High School

Toast to the Tree Wine Gala

Thanks to the amazing team at American Family Insurance, spearheaded by Diana Aronson, our second annual Toast to the Tree Wine Gala was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who supported and donated to the event, and for all who bought tickets and came out to sample the wonderful wine and food from Napa-Sonoma and desserts from Cold Stone Creamery and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

The Good Grief Project

Our main focus for 2018 is the Good Grief Project, which is a preventative outreach program that works in schools with children K-12 who are grieving or have been identified as at risk. Due to severe underfunding in the Washoe County School District, many schools cannot afford the program which requires an annual fee of $1500 to cover costs and supplies. This enables our team to visit a school twice a month during the academic year and provide educator training workshops to the teachers and staff. We view this service as critical for the children in our community because if we don’t work with them now, how can we expect them to become fully functioning, healthy, contributing members of our community who can and will give back when they reach adulthood? It’s not just a service that’s important for the youth we work with,
it’s important for the entire community.

All donations to the Solace Tree are tax deductible (Tax ID # 52-2438607) and we hope that you will consider our charity for your end of year giving.
